Joseph Marrone Reflects on the Importance of Mentoring and Philanthropy

Joseph Marrone Philanthropy

The importance of mentoring and philanthropy take a front seat this week as we mark the kick off to Fashion Touchdown 2018 with an announcement party set for July 19 at the Independence Visitor Center from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm EDT. Special guests Rodney McLeod, Jordan Hicks, and Chris Maragos from the Super Bowl-winning team, the Philadelphia Eagles, will be on hand for the festivities. World Champion Boxer Bernard Hopkins will also be in attendance.

The star-studded annual fundraiser, this year set for Nov. 5, 2018, has become one of Philadelphia’s biggest philanthropic events. This bares special meaning for presenting sponsor and founder of Marrone Law Firm, LLC, Joseph M. Marrone, Esquire. The fundraiser will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) Independence Region for the fifth year in a row. For Marrone, a native of the Philadelphia metro area, BBBS has played an integral part in his life.

Read on to learn about his personal journey with this outstanding mentoring organization.

REFLECTIONS OF A YOUNG BOY

Growing up in the Philadelphia area, Marrone benefited from strong family relationships and friends who helped mentor him as a young boy. They helped him find direction in his life and supported him in his choice of the field of law as his profession.

His mentors would instill a sense of hope and optimism in the young Marrone and embody in him the need to find a purpose in life, always remembering to be humble and give back to his community.

“As a youth, I enjoyed the advice and personal interest I would receive from those closest to me,” said Marrone. “As an adult reflecting back, I can see how important it is to have role models to look up to in this critical stage of childhood. That is why I am thrilled to now be involved in our region’s organization as a Governing Board Member.”

PAYING IT FORWARD

Marrone has established an illustrious career, all along remembering the importance of mentoring and philanthropy. After completing law school, he established a reputation as a powerful criminal defense attorney and high-powered litigator, eventually becoming a founding partner of Marrone Law Firm, LLC.

Throughout his career, he continues to champion the mission of BBBS and began to pay it forward by becoming a Big Brother himself many years ago. Interestingly, his Little Brother for 26 years, Brian D. Marchese, would eventually become an attorney at Marrone’s firm. Marrone has been a mentor to Marchese since he was eight years old, guiding him through college, law school and ultimately into his career as an attorney.

These efforts led the BBBS to select Marrone as a member of its Governing Board of Directors in 2017. Marrone continues to play an active role in the organization today, including its fundraising efforts.

FASHION TOUCHDOWN 2018

Coming off a record-breaking event, where more than $300,000 was raised for BBBS, this year’s Fashion Touchdown promises to be even bigger and better.

So what’s in store for this year’s event?

Once again, players from the Philadelphia Eagles and their wives will model high-end fashion trends. In a night of fashion and football, the Eagles walk the runway in the latest looks, followed by a live auction to win their jerseys and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Returning runaway fashion show partners include internationally-acclaimed designer, Nicole Miller, and ToBox Shoes. New this year will be Damari Savile, a men’s fashion line from Philadelphia Eagles player Malcolm Jenkins. More sponsors and activities will be announced at the launch fundraising event.

All proceeds from the July 19 announcement party will also benefit BBBS and can be purchased through Eventbrite.

The funds raised by Fashion Touchdown enable BBBS to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better. BBBS Independence currently serves nearly 4,000 children annually but has more than 1,200 children waiting for mentors of their own. Proceeds from Fashion Touchdown will help positively impact many more lives across the region.
